Chema Montes at Ecohuerto Organic Fram, Spain
11th April 2010. Organic farmer Chema Montes at his farm 'Ecohuerto' in Albero Bajo, Huesca. Chema and his wife own the farm which has been running for 5 years. They grow aubergines, salad, cucumbers, peppers, onions, lentils and beans - everything but corn. The food is for human consumption, unlike the surrounded fields which grow GE corn for animal feed. 30% of Spain's GE farming happens in this region. The GE Free Future bus is in Spain, the heart of GE farming in Europe, to petition for a GE Free Future. Spain produces 80% of all GMO in Europe and is home to 76,000 hectares of land used for the cultivation of GE crops.
